Digital clean up. Our trainees as sustainability heroes

As part of the OHA! initiative, our trainees developed an innovative project on the topic of data minimization and successfully presented it at the closing event at Eckert Beach. With creative ideas and a great deal of commitment, they impressively demonstrated how digital sustainability can be practiced in the company.

On July 22, our trainees presented their sustainability project as part of the OHA! initiative at the official closing event at Eckert Beach in Regenstauf. There, they met eleven other trainee groups from the region who had also been working on exciting sustainability ideas. Our team impressed with a very special topic: data minimization.

In the age of big data, digital archiving, and cloud solutions, it is often underestimated how much the growing amount of digital data waste is not only burdening our IT infrastructure but also the environment—for example, through the increasing energy requirements for server capacities. This is exactly where our trainees' project came in.

With a clever idea, they launched a competition at our plant in Abensberg: each department was called upon to identify data waste, delete unnecessary files, and thus actively contribute to CO₂ reduction. The campaign was supported by practical tips and tools that made it easier to get started. The department with the greatest data reduction will be rewarded with a prize at the end.

The presentation of the project idea at the closing event met with great interest and recognition – not only from the organizers, but also from the other participating groups. The combination of digital sustainability, teamwork, and creative communication generated a great deal of enthusiasm.

We are very proud of our Kroschu sustainability heroes and would like to say: Thank you very much for your commitment! We are already looking forward to the next ideas and projects with which you will actively shape our future.
